Things to do in Burleigh Heads

Burleigh Heads is a must-visit destination located on the Gold Coast between Surfers Paradise and Coolangatta. This picturesque location offers world-class surfing, unbeatable beaches, a lively cafe and dining scene, nature walks, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The National Park that covers most of the headland provides stunning views of the Gold Coast and bush walks through lush rainforest. Additionally, the Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre offers an opportunity to learn about the local First Nations people and their connection to the land.

“The Point” is an elevated grassy park on Goodwin Terrace that’s shaded by pine trees and pandanus palms, making it a popular spot for sunsets, picnics, and gatherings. The beaches in Burleigh Heads are lined with beautiful parkland, BBQs, playgrounds, and facilities for all to enjoy. On Sunday evenings, Justin Park is home to a joyful community jam session featuring musicians and fire-twirlers.

David Fleay Wildlife Park, a Best of Queensland Experience, offers a unique wildlife experience in the heart of Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast. Stroll through natural habitats and visit the nocturnal house to see some of Australia’s most iconic wildlife up close. From crocodiles and koalas to emus, brolgas, dingoes, dunnarts, bilbies, and kangaroos, you’ll have a chance to meet them all, including the resident platypus, Wally.
You can explore the park on your own or catch up with the dedicated park Rangers to learn more about how they care for Queensland’s unique wildlife. The park plays an important role in demonstrating the conservation initiatives of David Fleay, who established the property in 1951. Fleay was the first to breed platypus in captivity and insisted that birds and other animals should be kept in conditions similar to their natural environment, a now widely held philosophy reflected in the naturalistic enclosures you see today.

The park is suitable for wheelchairs, prams, and people with difficulty walking. You can also explore the nearby Tallebudgera Creek mangrove boardwalk and learn about the area’s Indigenous culture and the role of mangrove communities.

Please note that the visitor centre cafe will be closed from Thursday 25 February for refurbishment. Only a small selection of cold drinks and snacks will be available for purchase up to late June.

Visit David Fleay Wildlife Park in Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast, for a unique and unforgettable wildlife experience.

Looking for a unique and award-winning distillery experience? Look no further than Granddad Jack’s Craft Distillery, conveniently located just a two-minute walk from the beach on the border of Miami/Burleigh. As the first Gold Coast gin, whiskey, vodka and liqueur distillery to open its doors back in 2018, they have quickly become one of Australia’s most highly recommended and acclaimed artisan distilleries.

Housed in a converted surfboard warehouse built using up-cycled materials from the local area, the rustic and raw ambiance of the distillery is a sight to behold. You’ll quickly appreciate the love and artisanship that went into its construction, and equally that same level of craftsmanship goes into creating their craft spirits.

This family-owned distillery was founded by father and son team, David and Luke Ridden, in honour of Granddad Jack, with each core range named and inspired by moments in his life. Their award-winning spirits are handcrafted and made from locally and nationally sourced materials. The production process is on full display for visitors at their neighbourhood Tasting Room, where you can enjoy tastings and cocktails of their world-class spirits or purchase a bottle to take home.
Distillery tours are available over the weekend, and you can even make your own gin during their weekly distillery experience. With a second Brisbane venue now open, you can visit them on your next trip to the city or the coast. Come and see for yourself why Granddad Jack’s is a must-see Queensland destination.
